'All U Can Eat' and 'There's Always Someone Cooler Than You' are amazing. 'U' instead of 'You'... that bugs me. |
'learn to live with what you are' is my favorite, alothough 'all u can eat' is a close close second. |
They are all wonderful...but Rockstar blows my fucking mind...oh the backups and melodies...simply amazing. |
I'm going to say that using U instead of You is an ironical commentary on the attention deficit-ness of American culture, or something. |
"All U Can Eat"! |
Songs of Love has a pretty neat 30 sec outtro |
I'm actually pretty disappointed with this release. The messages of the songs are trite. The vocals lack any intensity (other than There's Always Someone Cooler Than You). I like the music of TASCTY, but otherwise I guess I'm just going to have to wait for the next EP because this one just doesn't interest me that much. |
I'm with grant and meow on the "U" issue. |
yes, trite. |
My favourite song so far is 'All U Can Eat.' (And yes, I completely agree with the whole 'u' thing... it is the only explanation!) I think that 'Always someone cooler than you' is my 2nd favourite right now. I'll have to listen to them more though because often my favourites change with repeated listens. |
I'm absolutely in love with "All U can eat" at the moment. |
At the moment, which I'm sure it'll change, but "Learn to Live With What You Are" is my current fave... |
all u can eat has a randy newman vibe to it |

All U can eat... i like a bit how the piano gets dramatic a bit, but never too shouty or angry. just his words. and even his voice isn't screaming the naughty words. just saying it like he's frustrated or crackin some jokes. |

I think this is the first release by Ben that doesn't use any "characters" (like Fred Jones, Alice Childress, etc.) It seems to lack the element of storytelling that I've always loved in his songs. |

Being the greedy little music muncher that I am... I was wondering if any had a link to a similar file server for Speed Graphic. I must be the only person here that hasn't heard this, but I'm Australian and not allowed to purchase over the net... thanks all |

try soulseek or kazaa |

While the eerie beauty of "Disneytown" draws me in hypnotically, I'll still have to say, ultimately, that "Life in Mono" is my favorite. The pensive imagery of the lyrics, the wistful vocals, the lovelorn atmosphere of the entire track. Years from now, it will be widely appreciated in all its haunting loveliness and come to be used in even more movie trailers worldwide. |
I disagree, I think "Learn to live with what you are", displays some of the GREATEST lyrics that Ben's written in a long time. You guys realise that lyrics don't have to be packed in, overused and confused to make them great. Simplicity is a great thing. Think of The Scientist by Coldplay. |

I just dont get it! I've been playing piano for the last ten years. This guy is my hero, the best pianist ive ever seen! Why has he ditched the amazing piano solos and crazy, original chords for this machine, electronic, repeating chord, bullshit?! Get back into the Philosophy, Army, Fired form! I mean, Wandering, Judy, all those, they were like 4 chords over and over. If i wanted that, I'd go listen to Oasis or some shit like that. And maybe, while youre there, Ben, call up Jesse and Sledge and see if theyd get back together. You were much better with them! |
Fired was pretty much 4 chords over and over too. But I would like more solos, yes. |

yeh, ok, youre right. take it back. i was upset. sorry, ben. i didnt mean it. but still, i dont know how you would compare the musical brilliance behind lullabye or song for the dumped, 200 solemn faces, etc. to the stuff youre giving us now. whatever, just a thought. |
And Learn... and Rockstar have some great jazzy chords in their bridges... I don't think you're giving Ben enough credit. His best stuff has always been more about composition than shredding the piano keys, in my mind. Just listen to the bridge of All U Can Eat for goodness sakes. |
You guys have got it all wrong. "There's Always Someone Cooler than You" is the best. I love the mood and "vibe" of it. |
