I'll start off with...

Boulder to Birmingham - Emmylou Harris

Her voice is angelic. It'll send shivers down your spine hearing this song.

MTV: Making superficial, self centered idiots look cool for the good of our nation. I'm glad losers like me have something to aspire to be.

I have a not-so-secret love affair with sad/meloncholy songs.

Act Naturally, and
Gone to the Movies, by Semisonic

Pale Blue Eyes - Velvet Underground

shoot, I have sad song thinking block...

just off the top of my head...

And So it Goes - billy joel

Somewhere - (west side story -- the song isn't sad unless it's in the context of the show)

Break Your Heart - barenaked ladies (from the live CD)

And So It Goes is a beautiful song.

Call Me On Your Way Back Home by Ryan Adams is great too.

Not to get off the subject, but has anybody heard Neil Diamonds Song Sung Blue? It's for sure the cheese of all sad songs. I can't help but chuckle when I hear it.

Hahaha. Neil Diamond, how I hate thee.

Upon listening to Emmylou Harris some more, I have to add her cover of The Beatles' "For No One" . Heartwrenching stuff.

People actually like Neil Diamond? I thought all of his "fans" were being ironic.

Well, yes, notice I reffered to the song as "the cheese". I find it thoroughly amusing. Another example might be my love of the song Rhinestone Cowboy, or my long time fondness for country music.

seasons in the sun
cats in the cradle
mad world (donnie darko version, NOT tears for fears)
hallelujah - rufus wainright
seems it never rains in southern california
living is without you
operator
anything by elliot smith...

AND last but not least ... EVAPORATED
makes me cry ever time i hear it

I wish it was the sixties, I wish I could be happy
I wish, I wish, I wish that something would happen

Limb by limb, tooth by tooth, Tearing up inside of me,
Every day, every hour, I wish that I was bullet proof

Ambition makes you look pretty ugly

I'd show them the stars and the meaning of life... They'd shut me away.
