From the February issue of Alternative Press:

"It sounds like we grew beards, went in the studio and recorded an album in a week." So says piano man / future lumberjack Ben Folds, describing his as-yet-untitled second solo full-length. The disc, due out early this year on Epic, will have a more "organic and dirtier" feel than Folds' trio of EPs released last year, which he described as "vanilla. Not that I have anything against vanilla," he jokes. Songs on the 11-track album include "Young Bastard," the 30-piece orchestra-accentuated "Landed," and "Time," which features Folds' good friend and sometimes video-director "Weird Al" Yankovic on backing vocals. But Folds assures AP the album is serious. "The album is very lyrically thematic. It was inspired by many of my friends being in debilitating relationships." NOt one to get caught up in the typical "this is the best album of my career"-talk most artists perpetuate every time they have a new release, Folds proudly states, "This is definitely not the best album I've ever made." He laughs, and concedes, "I sure wanna say that it is, though."

plus, I see that it was posted already. I weeded through ten pages of threads and missed it on the first page.

Not to me. I expect that kind of honesty from Ben.

I guess of all my uncles, I liked Uncle Cave Man the best. We called him Uncle Cave Man because he lived in a cave and because sometimes he'd eat one of us. Later on we found out he was a bear.

He was joking, as if to reverse-jinx it.

Sometimes you don't know what to do to make something better, and you've already put enough work into it, so you wrap it up. We'll hear for ourselves, but I'd think this isn't really a lazy effort from Ben Folds.

Not to mention he's been working on some of these songs in the studio for more than a year now. That's a long time to work on something four minutes long.
