I register new songs with BMI so we can monitor their live performances and I'm working on a batch of BMG published songs right now. To my surprise I just came upon all the songs from Songs for Silverman. This is too cool!!!!

What I did was take the payment information for each song on Ben's album and put it in BMI's database so we can pay him if any of those songs are performed publicly.

In case you're a songwriter, I highly reccommend that you research Performing Rights Organizations (PRO's). There are three in the U.S. (BMI, ASCAP, and SESAC) that monitor live performances (on the radio, in bars, on TV, etc) of songs you wrote and register with them. We then pass on the money we collect for those performances and pay writers and publishers accordingly. This represents a large chunk of income for many writers. BMI collects the most money and represents the most songwriters and publishers:

That was waaaay too much info...sorry:)

We're talking about an artist who, when asked to give a quote for the dust jacket to Kurt Cobain's posthumously published diaries submitted this quote: "Please don't do this to me after I kill myself." (The publishers opted not to use the quote.)

Nope, his publisher just submits information to us that I process and put in the computer. I understand that this doesn't sound exciting to anyone else but me...however, I thought it was cool to actually to play a VERY small but interactive role in the release of the new album.
