I think Fiona Apple is the best one around, but you probably already knew that.

No, I do. But thanks I needed a reminder. I've only got one of her albums.

I like Cat Power.

I don't think I'll ever get to hear Lucia Siferelli's sweet voice again except on the one album she did with her band before they called it quits. *sigh*

Charlotte Hatherly is the guitar player from Ash and she'd got a solo album out. Excellent power pop.

In the more traditional vein, there's this chick called Rachael Yamagata who I like, but for some reason still not quite sure about.

Here's some female singers / bands with female singers that I like (and I suspect I might be the only one here that likes some of this stuff) along with an album recommendation or two.

Alanis Morissette - Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, Feast On Scraps
The Cardigans (lead singer Nina Persson, who also has a solo album, "A Camp," that is decent, but very different from her Cardigans stuff) - Gran Turismo, Long Gone Before Daylight
Eva Cassidy - Eva By Heart, Imagine
Hooverphonic (lead singer Geike Arnaert, since their second album) - The Magnificent Tree, Jackie Cane
Guano Apes (lead singer Sandra Nasic) - Proud Like A God, Walking On A Thin Line
Julee Cruise - Floating Into The Night, The Voice Of Love
Dido - Life For Rent
Aimee Mann - Bachelor No. 2, Magnolia soundtrack
Airlock (lead singer Esra Tasasiz) - Drystar, Symptomatic

I'd agree with Fiona Apple. I don't own any, but I always liked her stuff.

I don't own much by girls. I guess I don't identify. Here are the few girl related groups/artists I own:

Lauryn Hill- straight up soulful (I'd like some Erykah Badu if I could make up my mind)
Etta James
Luscious Jackson

and that's about it. I could check but I'm too lazy

Get "Vespertine" by Bjork. You won't regret it. I think.

If you like jazz, you should check out Annie Sellick (www.anniesellick.com). She has an amazing voice, and I like the song that goes "I'm too white to sing the blues."
