so, to my suprise, i've really gotten into some alt-country artists. it's suprising as i always used to claim that country music was the worst. namely i like ryan adams, bright eyes, grateful dead, the byrds (to a certain extend).

anyway, i'm looking for some other stuff in this genre, you could recommend to me. i don't want all out country artists, but types of artists in the genre i've listed.

any help would be great. i've been looking through itunes essentials, but nothing there fits the bill really.

Neko Case's stuff is really great. Alt-country goddess.
Kind of. Sort of.
The Tiger Has Spoken is a good album.

Bright Eyes is alt-country now???

Anyway, check out Hotel Lights if you haven't yet. Clem Snide works too.

liebs i have trouble, i wouldn''t have really called that alt-country.

88, i have hotel lights, which i don't think is alt-country. but clem snide is a good suggestion. i've actually saw there lead singer live solo, here in the UK. as he was opener for ben folds at the barbican.

i never even thought of them, thanks.

also, i'm wide awake is very clearly alt-country in my opinion. plus it's great.

thanks.

Lots of the Hotel Lights strike me as extremely alt-country. Stumbling Home Winter Blues is a prime example.

Clem Snide is very good alt-Country.

Devon Sproule is a bit lillith-fairesque, but she's pretty good.

James McMurtry is a little more Country than Alt, but I think he's great, and for the most part I don't like Country. You might want to check him out.

Also, Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers is worth a listen.

There's TWO albums, both with the same songs. One is called "SFR" and the other is "Early Home Recordings." They're both the same album, but with different names. EHR was sold as a disc, but is out of print now. The only place to get SFR is on iTunes.

here is a picture, my friend took, of him opening for ben. he wore a white tux and a red cap and did a christina agularia (spelling) song.

This is one of the comedy alt-country bands I sell merch for. Great folks, I need to call Jeff sometime and see what he's up to nowadays.

Ghost of Fasion is very good. I love You Were A Diamond. It's interesting, as there's very little percussion. Also a lot of the songs are pessimistic, which is my cup of tea.

ok guys thanks for all these suggestions. i'm currently downloading the following from itunes:

the ghost of fashion - clem snide
tonight i burn brightly - bill ricchini
the execution of all things - rilo kiley

THANKS! i don't have anything by any of these guys.

i will check out the rest all in due course, and feel free to add more artists here. i really like this scene, i'm so sick of all the indie bands currently being thrown at the british public.

caats, i listened to me first by the elected on itunes, i think that might be my next download.

benfoldgroupie, stop getting me hot. and anyway i would prefer you to be on top, saddled up, thank you very much.

alright, I think I can deal, but it shouldn't be like that every time. You gotta do some work here and there.

There's enough love in Jessica go to around, and probably enough energy left to go for another round afterwards... right after this lunch break.
