It's hard to say. Hank Williams' music doesn't translate as well to the country as it currently exists. That's not to say it's not good. I don't know that you could ever really find Hank Williams' America any more.

A good book on Hank Williams and country music in general, is Don't Get above Your Raisin'.

I've never really thought much about Hank Williams. But I'm glad to know that he's making the rounds in Estonia.

I saw some video of him playing Woody Guthrie and some other country/blues legend. I wish I could remember who. It was at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.

I think your pick of him being legendary is a pretty good pick HD.

sorry penguinstyle but Hank Williams is without a doubt
better than his son because he almost alone made the
new style what some people called country music.
so its easy to see why hank senior is better than
junior.

Without having any idea whatsoever, I'd have to say Nashville.

Hiram 'Hank' Williams (September 17, 1923 – January 1, 1953) was an American singer, guitarist and songwriter, who has become an icon of country music and one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. A leading exponent of the Honky Tonk style, he had numerous hit records, and his charismatic performances and succint compositions fueled his fame. His songbook is one of the backbones of country music, and has been covered in a range of pop and rock styles. His legend grew after his premature death at the age of 29. His son, daughter and grandson are also musicians.

I'm with you on liking Hank Sr. more than Hank Jr.

Have you heard any Woody Guthrie or Ralph Stanley Hound Dog? I've read a little bit on both of them and heard a little bit and they are a little similar.

Hank Sr. is great, as is Woody Guthrie.

If it weren't for Woody Guthrie, there probably wouldn't be a Bob Dylan.

no it's not. i don't disagree that hank sr. had more sway in country music history. but hank jr. was born to boogie. PLUS he has a cool nickname. AND he looks like my dad. it's a winning combo!
