if you paint one painting it doesn't make you a painter, but if you blow up ONE building your automatically labeled a terrorist, the hypocrisy is unbelievable

Haha. I don't believe you about the ending.

I haven't seen it, i'll check it out in all its awfulness. How did you come across it?

I'm serious!! Not only that, the footage is playing backwards. The movie's on the IMDB Top 250, or was when I copied the list. Yes I'm still working on that, although now I'm just catching up on the ones that have shown up since I started.

Wow, that does sound pretty horrible. I've never even heard of it. What's next from the list for you? I'd assume you would still be doing that, it's 250!!!

I don't have tooo many left. I skipped the ones I'd already seen. Next is David Lean's Great Expectations. I think overall there are about 20 left for me to see, a lot of which just ended their theatrical runs.

I'm sure there are some virtues to this movie I just watched -- it's kind of a Russian propaganda version of All Quiet on the Western Front except it's FORTY YEARS too late to have boosted WWII morale -- and it is righteously excruciating (lots of takes that go on forever) but several things just seemed incompetent, apart from the wacky ending. The whole thing is extreme closeups which just makes it look like a TV movie, there are these weird surreal touches that seem like should be in a Monty Python sketch (some Russians dress up a skeleton in a Nazi outfit and carry it across a field), and there's this really fucking weird crosseyed girl... ah, you'll just have to see it, it's too inexplicable.

It sounds like my kind of poopiefilm. Lean's Great Expectations i remember being very good, if that is the B&W one with Alec Guiness.

There are 13 versions of this story on film. I've only ever seen two. The Lean film and the Cuaron film, i'm a big fan of both. Have you seen the Cuaron film?

Yes, I love the Cuaron film actually. It was heavily criticized for liberties taken with the book but I think it captured the spirit and the class-conscious undertones really well. And basically I think good adaptations of good books have to be very liberal or else they suck as movies.

Agreed. Also... Bobby D.

"You talkin' to me, Ethan Hawke?" is my favourite line in that movie.
