A palaeontologist digs dinos. Interal or not, doesn't mean they can't be removed and subsequently stood upon.

I dunno, I maintain that I like his new stuff. If I could make him swear more, though, that would be great.

Well let's see here, what can we add swear words to off of SfS?

Gracie? "You can't fool me, I saw you when you're fucking ass came out? You got your momma's shitty taste but you got my goddamn mouth"?

Hum... .org have at it.

Hey, I didn't say add swear words to SfS. Geesh. I didn't imply I thought the songs needed to be changed, I just implied that it was missing a customary pissed off song. I guess "Bastard" still got it a parental thingy on it though.

And plus, that wouldn't have fit, syllabically.

I don't need swearing if the music has something to say or some edge to it. Ben's lost his edge. I thought maybe he'd regained it on a couple of the EP tracks (Dog had a lot of potential I thought,) but he just didn't deliver.

Ill, I don't want to meet the person who would remove testes from a T. Rex to stand on them.

I thought maybe he'd regained it on a couple of the EP tracks

The EPs were the first sign that he'd LOST that edge.

I said a couple tracks drewface. Also, if you listen to RTS, you can hear it happening there (luckiest, losing lisa)

Losing Lisa is one of my top 3 tracks on RTS. I'd say you CAN hear it on RTS, but Losing Lisa is a bad example. Luckiest & Still Fighting It.

I disagree with the premise of the title of this thread.

That is all.

I second that thought, but that is not all.

I liken a lot of people on here to a guy I knew in my early 20s. You'd see him and he'd ask what you were listening to and if it was a band that had more than one major label album, he would give it the old "I don't care for them anymore". He always hda to be on the cutting edge with some band that YOU had never heard of before.

A lot of people fall into that category of wanting to be too cool for school.

Also, I think it's a bit of nostalgia. Most members of this board were in grade school or junior high when BFF hit the scene. They tend to like that sound because it takes them back. I was in my twenties when I first heard Underground. I like BFF a lot, but it wasn't unitl RTS that it took on a full blown obssession for me.

I could be wrong and maybe Ben sucks now, but I appreciate his solo stuff as much as the BFF albums. It's all a matter of opinion I suppose.

You'd think I would be more nostalgic for BFF since that was what i listened to when I was banging your moms and older sisters back in the day. :)

My stance has not at all changed. I love Ben Folds as much as I have ever loved him, which means that he is pretty much my favorite (although he can never do a "Bohemian Rhapsody" equivalent which is too bad, but then again, neither can anyone else).

I like a lot when you can sort of track a musician by his albums, or a director (or writer) by his films. I respect it.

The thing about SfS is I feel like it's meant to be listened to as an album. It lacks that feeling you get with a lot of the older albums (excluding TUBORM and FoP) that it's an album full of potential singles, and those are usually my favorite albums of his. I mean, my favorite BF5 album is TUBORM, I adore FoP with all my heart, and SfS is gorgeous.

However, I am a lot less judgmental than a lot of people when it comes to these things. Or maybe I should say I'm a lot more loyal. The day that I decided Arrested Development was my favorite TV show...I never looked back. I never question what my favorite movie is, my favorite song has been the same song since I was 5, and if I pick a filmmaker to like (say, Kevin Smith), I don't suddenly change my mind when I see something of his that I don't initially like a lot. In fact, usually it expands my horizons because I'd rather like it than hate it, so I find a reason to. (I guess the downside of all this is that I pretty much despise anything that doesn't fall into my sphere of happiness.)

Which is why people that say I'm a pessimist can suck it.

But didn't Ben also say anyway that he wanted to get his SFS album made and out of his system? In other words it's not a NEW DIRECTION?

i know, you can't win with these ben-lovers. i still listen to OASIS for christ's sake. it's nothing to do with elitism. BEN JUST WRITES INFERIOR MUSIC NOW. how hard is that to understand?

he still has flashes of brilliance--you to think is the most bff-sounding thing he's done since going solo, probably--but on the whole it's just lameo shit. i mean, he thought it was a good idea to run rock this bitch into the ground, a joke that wasn't even funny the first time around. the guy is treading water.

i think he was mostly humoring the people screaming for rock this bitch and tried to make it interesting for everybody else by playing it differently each time until he couldn't stand to do it anymore.

I would think people out west (where Ben never tours wtf is that?) thought "Rock This Bitch" was very personalized.

yeah, um... no. ben not playing rock this bitch would not exactly be like radiohead not playing creep.

There were some good stories on the EPs and I just want people to hear these stories.

"if i was starting over again and had to make a demo tape, i'd use this EP. it represents a big part of what i do very naturally. part of me thinks i'm an idiot for 'wasting' this recording on a limited release EP, but i'm really into this method of recording and releasing quickly and making it all about music, so here it is. at this moment as i'm typing away on my computer on a plane to chicago, i'm feeling like it's one of my best records. and i'm just warming up because i'm headed back into the studio to make another EP, 'super d', for release in november."
