Why doesn't he have any dates scheduled around Atlanta or Birmingham or even(God forbid) Florida this season? The closest gig to me is in SC, and i'm prolly not gonna be able to get seats.

he mentioned that at the Savannah, GA concert when I was there. He said he doesn't pull crowds in the south. He said that he gets the biggest response in the Northeastern states and New England. And I think in Australia...but I am sure that most people know that here.

um, yeah.....not so much....

that's nuts; every show i've been to down here, be it nashville, atlanta, or gainesville(FL), he's had huge crowds. sigh. oh well.

Huge crowds, perhaps but were the venues filled to capacity?

(This from one who lives in Richmond, VA and would LOVE to see more of Mr. Folds south of the Mason Dixon line ...)

However, being in Richmond, I at least have the option to go up to D.C. or Baltimore when he's around there - so I do understand the frustration of them as are further south than I ...

You would think that he'd have more of a devoted following in the South, having been based in NC for so long.

I seen a picture where it came from, but I don't wanna say where it came from! I don't wanna say, but I gotta spell it instead... B-U-T!

With the exception of some festivals and the like (Uptown Mix (x2), some Vanderbilt storyteller/concert series), I don't think Ben played any proper shows in Nashville for the first few years he lived there. Then, he played at the Ryman a few months after I moved away. I was pretty bummed about that. You'd think he'd play more shows on his current home turf. Unfortunately, I think it's true that he's not a huge draw in the south. I guess he lives in the south to get away from the rabid fans. There are a lot fewer of us down here.

I figured it was going to be some contempt laden drivel about how we northerners with our Jewbased entertainment industry hordes all of the decent acts or something

I would like to point out that Ben even attended college at the University Of Miami...

Yet, he hasn't played a regular concert in South Florida (either Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, or Miami), since 1997.

It REALLY, REALLY sucks being a Ben Folds fan in Florida...

(The only Ben apperances in Florida since October 1997, are the aforementioned Gainesville show in 2002, (which is really northern Florida)... and the very short bullshit sets he did opening for Tori Amos in 2003.)

I am CERTAIN if he came down to the Miami area again, he could fill venues at least as large as some of the bumfuck nowhere places he routinely visits every tour...

I think we're beyond overdue!

If he doesn't want to tour the whole state, it would be nice if he at least did one show, perhaps in central Florida... (House Of Blues or Hard Rock Live Orlando would be pretty good for him). Then people all around the state could come see him, without having to commute 10+ hours to Atlanta, which is usually the closest he comes...

I've basically given up on him ever returning... It sucks.

OK, sorry for bitching...

yeah but Will Smith wrote that awesome song for you guys, so that makes up for it

hoenstly though, it's very hard for us midwestern folks to feel sorry for people who live in those sunny states

A southern man don't need Neil Young or Ben Folds around, anyhow.

Does Ben play banjo? If so, problem solved.

He commented at the Ruston show that they need to play in the south more (yeah I know he was playing to the audience).

I would at least like to see a show in Memphis. That's a great music town.

He's playing in Texas, so I'm assuming that he's at least got a fiddle in the band.

Good point. Come to think of it, there was no hot lead guitar in Louisiana in April.

If Ben went to Louisiana with a hot lead guitar or to Texas sans fiddle, he'll get booed off the stage like Dylan did when he went electric.

He's an ass, but he's spot on with a lot of it.

My sister just moved to the DFW area, and she's not liking it at all.

DFW is just too large. I know a lot of people who love living in Austin. Also, I am pretty sure they don't rape Indians very often.

Whether you agree with him or not, it's still stupid to do that.

I guess that's him in GP's avatar?
