you prolly know about htis story already, and if not search google news or watch oprah clips on youtube or w/e. there's a transgendered man from oregon, he's pregnant. that's basically the long and short of it.

this is my problem with the story:

the whole concept of being born transgendered is REALLY fucking hard for most folks to understand -- for instance: i can't, being a man, imagine why any person born a man would want to be a woman. but i accept 100% that transgendered ppl really do feel, for a lifetime, the way that they do. it's like quantum physics -- just because i don't and never will understand it doesn't mean it's not true, or that there isn't someone out there that understands it. in other words, you don't have to understand it to accept the central truth.

but have you ever known a man that wanted to be pregnant? like, ever?

i saw the pregnant man on tv explaining that he didn't have sex reassignment surgery and get a dick reconstructed out of his vagina b/c he wanted someday to have children. what non-transgendered man has EVER wanted to get pregnant?!? now i know that transppl don't "want" to be a diff gender, they already are, etc etc, that's a diff matter. but the pregnant man WANTED to get pregnant, which to me is almost by definition so not man-ish, and something a man would never pine for. (it's almost the whole comedic underpinning of "junior," no?) and thus you wouldn't expect it even out of a transman.

anyways, maybe i'm just not open-minded enough, but i feel like this guy is a doing a disservice to his cause.

can any .org transppl weigh in on this pls?

I can certainly understand that for women, getting pregnant - other than being a complete physical nightmare - is a pretty special process, carrying and nurturing a new life and all that. But yeah, I'm not exactly disappointed to miss out on that. I mean... why didn't pregnant man just get a puppy or plant a herb garden or something?

This smells of money to me. If this guy wanted to be pregnant, he could have gotten pregnant (I'm guessing it's a she who is now a he) quietly and with dignity and kept the pregnancy knowledge within his family and circle of close friends.

Having been pregnant, it's an interesting time. Twice is enough for me. And I'm a girl who always wanted to have children. I didn't feel all that special or "life giving" or whatever. I didn't buy into all that natural birth stuff. It was all about the epidural for pain control. And trying to find a pair of pregnancy jeans that would acutally stay up.

But back to this dude. I think he's looking for money and cashing in on our human attraction to oddities.

Well, apparently the "guy's" wife couldn't get knocked up, so he did it for her.

What sort of baffles me is... Well, I figured when a girl became a guy, they'd take out the uterus. I mean, to me, that seems pretty womanly, sort of an important part of the girl-removal process. Plus, if he has a cock (and I assume he does, maybe he doesn't?), how would he have a period and go thru the menstrual process?

he didn't do the genital change, I guess he'd have gone off testosterone too if he was taking that.

Here's the thing though.... this guy.... never actually took the step to become a guy.

He did not have sex reassignment surgery. As I understand it, he only took the hormone pills.

Which.... and I know it isn't pc....means he is still a woman physically.

So, to be calling this guy the pregnant man is sort of misleading.

I know that this person believes he is a man and that he presents as a man, but the fact is... he is still a woman physically.

I do understand the ideas of transgendered people and all that that !g!p! said... I am just going to maintain that this person is still a woman and therefore... this is really not a big fucking deal.

See, EXACTLY. It's a woman. No cock? I don't care how little tits you have, or if you have a beard. If you have a cooch, you're a lady, AND THAT'S FINAL.

I agree with KK. The man is still a woman.

But I think geep's concern was, if this person really truly thought of himself as a man, as transgender women do, he would not have kept his lady parts for the sole purpose of maybe someday getting pregnant

I totally agree. If you've really come to the realization that you are of a different gender than the sex you were physically born with, you'd have come to accept that if you began to live your life that way, you gave up everything associated with the sex you were born with.

However, on the flip site, transgender women can't get pregnant, so I guess more power to this guy.

yeah. while i agree somewhat with rach, he is definitely legally a man. so there's no real reason not to call him a man.

but yeah.

also another thing i think about is what if there was a female-to-male transgendered person who--as a male--was really, really effeminate? has that ever happened? b/c that would be confusing.

i guess i just expect transgendered ppl to confirm certain basic gender norms.

Silvergirl--I'm totally with you. I'm all for people making changes to be who they want to be, but stop calling this guy a pregnant MAN because it's impossible for men to be pregnant, therefore if he's pregnant he's not a man. Though he may be a male gender-wise, his sex is still female.

I don't really understand people having the feeling that their biological sex doesn't match their gender, though... so far as, gender is a social construct. So to me, if I felt like I wasn't necessarily a "man"... then just fuck the notion of gender and just act however you wanna act. Maybe I'm missing something in the big picture here but... I think I'd rather be changing people's minds, rather than mess with the way I was born.

I'm worried about the male hormones he's been taking and how they're going to affect that poor fetus.

But not really worried, like concerned for him worried. Just in general.

Emaline--according to the story, he's been off the male hormones for two years because it could cause problems for the baby.

eeh... that gets tricky. yeah, gender is a social construct, but it is based in large measure on pretty basic biology. put another way, genitals really matter. don't your genitals matter to you? if you woke up tomorrow morning and your dick had been turned into ladyparts overnight by the ladyparts fairy, would you feel as much a man? our genitals figure pretty huge in our conception of gender.

Maybe I'm missing something in the big picture here but... I think I'd rather be changing people's minds, rather than mess with the way I was born.

yeah but i'd imagine the latter is a lot easier than the former.

i guess i just expect transgendered ppl to confirm certain basic gender norms.

i mean, seems like all the female-to-males ttly can't wait to grow some facial hair.

anyways, i am tapped thinking about all of this.

he is definitely legally a man.

How is he legally a man?

If he wants to be called a man I don't see the problem.
I do'nt have a problem calling him a man. I do have a problem calling him a pregnant man, because he is still physically a woman. So, like somebody said...men can't be pregnant. Basically, I don't see why it's such a big fucking deal.

So what... some chick who thinks she's a man is knocked up. If it was a man who had had a sex change and got pregnant. OR a man who never had any operations and was carrying a baby... then I could see making a big deal out of it.

But as I see it... who really cares? IT's just another woman having a baby.

As far as identifying as male gendered... that's fine.
Having a baby is fine.
It's just that... a woman who thinks she is a man, who also incidentally happens to be having a baby... is no big deal. Definitely not a big enough deal to be making national news.

To summarize: No problems calling this person a man. Physically he is still a woman. Women being pregnant is not a big deal since it's been happening since the dawn of man.

If this guy/girl spontaneously grew a baby on it's thigh... then that might be a big deal... until then... I don't really care.

I wouldn't disagree with that. I'm just a bit stubborn with that stuff, when it comes to what other people think. Anyways, good post all up.

There was a lot more to ChangelingJane than being transgendered. Like being excrutiatingly unfunny, oversensitive and annoying.
