It's gonna be 4 bucks a gallon here in a couple more weeks time... WTF. For the first time in my life I'm seriously considering where and when and how much I drive, just based on the price, it fucking sucks. Right now it's about $3.85 at the cheapest possible, and every couple days it creeps up. Gas is now actually a sizeable percentage of my paycheck.

I remember a really *brief* period, just post-9/11 (ironically, RTS day) where gas was still $.99 a gallon in some parts of Tustin/Santa Ana, where I lived at the time. Most of the rest of OC was probably as expensive as $1.20... Of course I'm generally referring to the cheap stuff, 87 octane.

Anyhow, random rant, sorry... I had to do it. It really bums me out.

I'm not a word.

do do do lookin' out my back doo

Yeah, i am up there with you on the bummed out.

I live in a suburb and work in the big city, and i'm spending upwards of $200 a month on gas JUST TO GET TO WORK. It's so frustrating!

I live pretty close to where I work and my car gets good mileage so I'm not really sweating it. Ha, ha.

i live 8 blocks from where i work and have a bike, so things are pretty ace. however, my automobile is an '89 F150. i'm going to have to leave it in new orleans indefinitely when we leave in two months just 'cause of how much it would cost to bring it with us. sucks!

our company vehicle is a venice (like an off-brand vespa). it gets, like, 80 miles per gallon. it's pretty exciting as long as you live in a city that doesn't really have any roads that require you to go faster that about 30 mph.

i love bikes. i rented one in loas when i was travelling.

i got a leech on me leg and veered off the road and totalled myself.

i was awesome fun that day though.

we biked to this huge waterfall. pigs would run out on the road in front of you.

laos is beautiful and laid back.

new orleans is great for bikes. except my friend devin has been hit by a car twice in the past six weeks while out on his bike. but he's stupid about riding around cars, so it's his own fault.

we're taking the bikes with us when we leave. i'm looking forward to mountain roads.

I'm seriously considering where and when and how much I drive

welcome to everywhere else in the world about ten years ago.

the only problem I have with the high gas prices is the lack of an alternative for most of the US. if we had decent public transport or roads designed to be bike friendly, it wouldn't be as bad. the plain fact is that many americans can't get to work (in a reasonable amount of time) without driving

yeah, the globe is mostly worse off than the US. except for a few spots like Iran, Venezuela and Nigeria, the states pay less. in places like the UK it's far worse.

the kind of cars we drive don't help either.

i mean, lots of americans will bitch about gasoline prices, and then turn around and buy a fucking SUV, or some other sub-30 mpg automobile. high gas prices are good, and i hope they get so high to the point that ppl won't let their politicians get away with empty promises about "energy independence" or w/e.

In Cairo I could take a taxi ride for $1 that would cost $10-15 in NYC or London.
