My night in the ER

My nose started bleeding because of my sinus surgery in the middle of the night, so Andy had to take me to the hospital. It's the one possible complication from that surgery and of course it happened. The ER doctor had no idea what to do, even after getting my specialist on the phone, and just treated it like a regular nose bleed, which included a really painful "nose tampon" that actually made me cry when put in. I told them it was still bleeding too much but they said that's all they could do and to go see my doctor. That took four hours.

A couple hours later my doctor was in his office and I was able to see him right away. He said when he talked to the ER doctor he offered to come down, but the ER doctor said he could handle it. My doctor did some cleaning, dabbed some chemicals, and put a little of the gel packing they'd used for surgery and stopped the bleeding in just a few minutes.

However, while he was cleaning and looking for the problem, I had to lean forward and just let it bleed. I ended up spending a lot of time on the floor of the clinic cause I could walk 5 feet without getting light headed, then finally had to be wheel chaired out.

I hate ER doctors. I have come to realize more and more just how bad they are at damage control, which is what their main job is.

Sorry to hear about all that Kel. But to answer your question, my Sunday night/Monday morning was awesome. I saw the Avett Brothers in Tulsa and had Whataburger afterwards.

I think he was ready to. My ENT is pretty rad.

I'm sorry about your experience, Kelly. I hope you're feeling somewhat better now.

We have a good urgent care center here in town. They're open during the day and early evening. I've gotten excellent care there. I hope I never need emergency care when they're not open - ERs suck.

kelly had to go back this morning. she started bleeding again last night around 12:45, and bled through till about 9:30 AM when they finally called a REAL ENT down to the ER and got the bleeding to stop again, this time for good, hopefully

anyways, she got really woozy and passed out as they were trying to discharge her, so they're keeping her overnight

seriously, this is some scary shit.

I think one of the big problems is that our generation and subsequent generations view the ER as a catchall and that they'll be able to deal with all sorts of things. While major blood loss is an issue, sinus surgery is probably beyond the realm of most ER doctors. It's not really their fault that they don't know what to do. It's not designed for that sort of medicine.

i used to have nose bleed problems, like in the summer i'd have like 3 a day cuz of the dry air. but now i put lotion IN MY nose/nostril. mm no more blood.

if i see fucking pubes sprinkled on the toilet seat, i'm gonna fucking lose my mind! last time i went to the bathroom, i took a shit, my shit looked like a fucking stuffed animal!

agreed, but the first doctor called up her ENT, and the ENT offered to come down and help, and the ER doctor was like "nope, got it covered, thx"

fuck that guy, because he made the problem a lot worse imo by not getting an ENT down into the ER.

the second ER doctor this morning did exactly that, and thus the ER has once again earned this mods seal of approval.
