i'd say the rest of the album that's leaked is about equally as baffling. "heart songs" is the most insipid, self-indulgent crap i've ever heard. on the whole it's more interesting and catchier than MB, but there's at least one cringeworthy lyric in every song still -- i guess writing three years' worth of literally meaningless lyrics nonstop took its toll on his lyric-writing ability... |

all 8 of these songs are awful. they jump from ridiculously juvenile to sickeningly maudlin. and i guess rivers lost his ability to sing, seeing that he raps in every single song now. |

dreamin' sounds recycled... like a bad pinkerton b-side. i dunno. it's definitely the most earnest song here, but i just can't get back this strange attempt at a sense of humor rivers has been trying to adopt. i really enjoyed a few songs on MB (hated Green and Maladroit)... so far nothing's really sticking with me out of these. |

i like the chorus melody toward the end in Greatest Man at least, it's got that simplistic nursery rhyme feel that was in a lot of Pinkerton. But there's too much other weird crap floating around in that tune. |
