idk, like anything thats more meaningful than its surface value, it just takes some getting used to. I hated all his lo fi stuff when i first heard it and only listened 2 newer stuff, but now i like most of his records. i think u will even come to enjoy the emotion in his voice.

on that note, sunset tree is a good start, but u could also go with We Shall all be Healed and/or Tallahassee.

For his earlier lo-fi sound, go with "All Hail West Texas"
For his hi-fi relationship album, go with "Tallahassee"
For his hi-fi growing up in an abusive household album, go with "The Sunset Tree"

The Sunset Tree is probably the easiest to get into, but I like the other two better.
