I think Beck & co. have the right idea just churning it out in a day and releasing them online.

Ignore the Leonard Cohen one at all costs.

The Velvet Underground one is worth at least one listen, and the Skip Spence one is actually wonderful.

Having Wilco, Feist,and Jamie Lidell and James Gadson in the same room at the same time probably helps.
