Bowling, eh? |
Do you have any soup in the fridge for bowling tonight? |
yeah that's thursdays, sept-apr. |

I subbed all day and put up with so much middle school girl drama in the last 2 hours that I am physically exhausted. But now I have to go meet a group member so we can quickly slap together the last third of a a presentation we have to give at 5:30 because our other group member's mom is in the hospital, so he's been totally MIA. |
*emotionally exhausted |
i recommend cream soda with rum |
I have a middle school aged daughter and I feel for anyone that has to deal with more than one of them. |
five. FIVE! more than that really, but those five were having the drama. |
Apparently group member's mom is super sick and in an out of town hospital, so so is he. This should be a fun presentation. |
Think of it this way...in a year you will be worried about something else entirely and this won't even register as a memory |
;) |
ppl wonder why i'm so maladjusted |
But isn't it harder to diffuse a situation like that when you know nothing about the kids in the middle of it? |
Dealing with middle school kids is difficult no matter if your a seasoned veteran or a sub walking in on nothing. |
Plus a lot of the emotional exhaustion came from really understanding where they were coming from. It's been awhile, but I clearly remember catty middle school drama land. It kind of makes me want to work with that age just to help them out. I know how sucky my teachers were with that stuff way back when. |
yikes, rach! I've been lucky enough to not get called to the school this year where there were lots of knives. I was lucky enough last year to keep missing knife days. |
Geez Rachael, that's pretty intense. |
I'm glad it was only a knife this time and that the security team caught it at the door. We've had a few guns already this year. Usually, it isn't my students. This is just a kid who was put out of his home and has a lot of stuff going on and is having some gang issues with the kid next door to my room. I am not going to take it personally... if I did, I wouldn't be able to make it through the school day. |
I guess I'm just contrasting this to my middle school teaching experience here in Korea, where most of my "troubling experiences" are simply confusion between culture and language differences and the frustration that no one can understand you sometimes. The kids are pretty subdued, most likely to the fact that they have no free time throughout the day and study whenever they're awake, but nothing violent or anything. I did have to break up a fight one time, but it was pretty tame and the kids were small and thin and easy to control. |
How's the teen suicide rate over there in Korea? It sounds a lot like the culture in japan. |
so my kid was freaking out last night because she said some of her friends were going to do drugs. She was freaking out that my wife wouldn't leave her after school so she could stop them, ( and of course screaming that if those kids got hooked on drugs it was my wife's fault) |
Aww...good for her! That takes guts. |
good job on the daughter, tbone. i stopped a potential school shooting by ratting on someone once. but it turned out she didn't even have access to any guns. she did get expelled though. |
Where is she now? At a tea party rally. |
