If you have the chance...go see John Williams (the guitarist) live at the concert hall near you. I saw him tonight at the acclaimed Spivey Hall in Atlanta. Simply the most precise guitarist I've ever seen. He and the other virtuosos in his group played a collection of African compositions, two of which were Williams' originals. Freaking amazing. If you like good music....go buy tickets NOW (60$).

He invited me over to watch movies- I thought. He started, basically, rubbing himself down with baby oil. I was really shocked, I didn't know what to do about it. So, I called up Robert...The rest is history." - Darren Jessee

nonononononnononnon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gonness....i thought you people were musicians...

holy gee wiz christ

John Williams is a world famous guitarist. There are 2 John Williams. The american famous movie composer and the world famous guitarist. The guitarist has been around longer and is much more respected musician around the world than the pop-culture movie john williams. (although he is very inventive and writes great scores).......

just had to clear that up.

I saw Elliot Fiske the other day. Also an amazing classical guitarist.

doug...where did you see him? Eliot Fiske is perhaps my favorite guitarist. Much more expressive than John Williams if you ask me. (faster too)

He was the guest artist at a Syracuse Symphony Concert. It was incredible.

He played Fantasia Para un Fentilhombre, by Joaquin Rodrigo. After that, he spoke with to audience a little bit, showing how he'd play first an arpeggio in the background and then the melody over it and it then he just went into the song. It was incredible.

Rodrigo! nice. I knew he was in New York sometime this month. Do you play? I'm working on a Bach suite right now. (bwv 996....1st one).

I can't play classical... I can do chords on the guitar and that's about all.

Still Elliot Fiske made me wish I could play.

boris....respected by who? star wars fans? rednecks?

If you knew anything about the music world....you would know...that John williams....the GUITARIST is more respected....MUCH more respected than John Williams the movie score composer....he is a "pop" classical musician....granted he's good at what he does....but not respected by the professionals and pundits in comparison to the other. Don't get me wrong....john w. (movie comp.) is great, and creative, but not as respected b/c of his line of work.

Boris is obviously kidding. Look at how he ends his post. Come on.

again its down to taste scratch. you can't just claim that one is mroe respected.

I'd imagine the film score writer is more respected actually. perhaps not in high-art music circles.....but in terms "around the world" respect I'd say the film score writer has the more respect.

i might be wrong. i'm happy to be wrong
but you first have to show me I'm wrong.

yonnermark you are a moron i've decided. I'm not talking about "taste". I'm talking about this:

let's say there are 100,000 recognized music experts in the world.....almost all of them would RESPECT (not enjoy or "like") but respect the musicianship of the guitarist more. John Williams (the score writer) is a "Pop" movie composer...sure he uses an orchestra...but it's pop (with a little bit of gustav holtz influence).

I didn't say, yonnermark, that lucy likes jw the composer more and bobby likes jw the guitarist more and everything is ok, but jw guitarist is better. you see?
